IT organizations are continuously challenged with protecting applications and data against downtime. comdivision helps you to deliver a comprehensive, integrated portfolio of backup, business continuity and disaster recovery solutions that provides high availability, data protection and disaster recovery for your virtualized infrastructure. Applying the simple 3-2-1 rule is a key priority while we also focus on the implementation of requirement focused practical solutions.

Definitions first...

When we talk about backup and business continuity it is important to understand the difference of the different solutions, the impact and also how and if these can be applied to your infrastructure whether that is on premises or in the cloud.

  • Backup and Recovery
  • Disaster Avoidance
  • Disaster Recovery

Backup and Recovery

There is always one simple bare minimum defined when we discuss backup and recovery: The so called 3-2-1 rule. So let's start and explain this simple rule first:

  • 3 copies/backups:
At the minimum you should always have at least three backups of your workloads, metadata and machine definitions. Everything above 3 copies is better, often a specific schedule covering also the retention period is helpful.
  • 2 locations:
Most of the time one backup is operated and located on premises, but you should always have a secondary backup copy. Ideally in an offsite location or a bank vault at least far enough away that a local disaster would not hit primary and secondary site at the same time
  • 1 other media type:
No matter what any vendor tells you, it is important to have at least two different types of media, so that just in case if one media type is no longer readable it's good to have a tape copy or something similar

Disaster avoidance

We usually can reduce the risk of a disaster by putting our datacenter into a safe place, making more components redundant etc. but we can't really avoid disasters. What we usually address in Disaster avoidance are:

  • Redundancy
How can we make systems more reliable by adding redundancy on all layers incl. maybe the complete datacenter
  • Disaster preparation
For example in case of a potential natural disaster, huricane, flood etc. individual workloads or complete datacenter's could be moved offsite

Disaster recovery

All customers who are using our premiere cd:knowledge services have access to our emergency response team which provides immediate assistance in case your IT is affected by a disaster. Whether we help getting systems back up and running, setup a new infrastructure or help reduce the business impact.

Ideally our team has helped setup a Disaster Recovery strategy, so that run books etc. exist and we can help get you up and running with a minimum business impact.
